Since that day, fourteen years have passed and now Kay herself was fifteen, well on July 15 she would be.
"Kay, get up!" There was no response to the mother's call. She put her hands on her hips in annoyance.
"Kay, get up!" The mother sighed and yelled,"KAY GET UP NOW! DON'T MAKE ME COME UP THERE!"
The mother could hear moving from upstairs and nodded to herself. She smiled lightly and went into the kitchen to get breakfast ready. Upstairs, though, a girl with tan light skin kicked in her bed. She reached over and turned her alarm clock off. She groaned lightly and got out of bed, stretching a little. She got dressed for another boring day of school and homework. She couldn't help but smile though when she remember that in another few days she'd be fifteen! Finally, she'd be old enough to go on her own for a little and she could even get her tempts!
Kay brushed her long oak brown hair and moved it out of her face. Kay didn't have many friends, for they were scared of her for some reason, and she didn't care what other people though of her.
She sighed and threw her book-bag on over her shoulders. Once she had since the time she had gasped.
"I'm going to be late!"
She quickly ran down the steps, grabbed a piece of toast and headed out the door.
"Kay!" Her mother called. Kay sighed, but smiled. She took her bag lunch from her mother, who kissed her on the head and waved goodbye. She quickly ran down the street to wait for the big yellow veical to come her way. When it did, she smiled happily and got on. Kay always sat at the end of the bus. Mostly because she liked to day dream then and again before school. She set her head on her upraised arm and closed her eyes. She started slowly slipping into a day dream when the bus halted to a stop, jerking her forward. She blinked in confusion and looked up at the front of the bus, where a boy, no older then sixteen.
'A new student?' Kay thought. She just shurged it off and went back to looking out the window, that is, until the bus driver said, "Yes. There is a spot next to Kay."
She looked up, but then back out the window. He sat down beside her and took out a notebook. Kay watched as he started drawing figures. She couldn't put her thumb on it, but they seemed familiar to her. She watched him until, "Do you mind?" He snapped at her.
Kay's face turned pale and she was speechless for a moment. She growled lightly and spat, "Actually I do. Why my seat anyway?"
She turned away from him, to watch the buildings pass by.
"What's you name anyway?" She mumbled. She could hear the boy shuffle in his seat.
"It's Reo...Reo Talkoshein. What's yours...?" He resorted. Kay finally looked down at her feet.
"I...don't know...All I know is Kay..." She mumbled as she played with her fingers. She could hear the boy chuckle a little. She clenched her fists and growled as she watched the buildings and tree pass again. It was but fifteen horrible minutes later that they finally got to school. Kay pushed past everyone to get off. She happily put her book-bag on her shoulder and kept her eyes a head of her. Reo got off and followed Kay. He started asking her all kinds of questions. When Kay didn't answer he called, "Hey! Wait! Come back! I didn't mean to seem to rude!"
Kay stopped and glared at him.
"Well you were and you did."
She continued walking. Reo blinked and his faced flushed. He started following her again, he said pleadingly, "Aww, come on...you can't be that mad at me! You weren't too nice yourself either!"
Kay didn't listen, she just kept walking. Reo stopped and slumped a little. He called after Kay, "See you on the bus then..."
Kay growled to herself, 'The only reason I was mean was because he was!'
She shook her head and walked into the restroom. She splashed water in her face.
'Alright, come down...'
She blinked at her reflection and stretched. She walked out when she heard laughing. She stopped dead in her tracks when she stopped the person causing it. It was none other then Katie Carasmen, the preppy cheerleader. She turned her back on them, but someone put their arm around Kay's shoulders. She clenched her fist again.
"Yes, can I help you?" She asked very annoyed. Katie with her cheer squad surrounded Kay and giggled. Katie said through blows of her bubblegum, "Where ya goin' grandma? Oh, and you might wanna' held you little boyfriend over there."
Kay's eyes slowly followed Katie's directions to where Reo stood, to scared to come down the steps. She pushed past Katie and her squad to reach Reo. She grabbed his wrist and headed for her class, while Katie followed.
Kay stopped at her door and pulled Reo in front of her. He pulled his glasses up on his nose. Kay rolled her eyes.
"Okay, three things. One; you need to grow a back bone. Two; I'm not always going to protect you. And three; where is your class?"
Reo pulled out a schedule. Kay took it and her eyes went wide. She groaned.
"You have all my classes. Just perfect!" She said sarcasticly. Reo blinked and looked down. Kay noticed this and sighed. She lead Reo to is first class. Math.
"Wonderful...Math..." Kay mumbled as she walked into the door, Reo not far behind her. She plopped down and set her books on her desk. Reo handed the teacher a note. He nodded and stood.
"Everyone, we have a new student! Please welcome..." He paused to read the paper. "Reo to our classroom. Please take a seat Reo."
Kay shoved her head into a book. She tried her best to ignore him. That is, until Katie raised her hand and said, "There's a free seat by Kay!"
She growled and clutched the book for dear life. Reo just took the seat beside her. Kay quickly set her book down and started reading it. Reo reached over the aile.
"Hey, psstt, Kay?" She looked into her book, trying her best not to scream. Reo persisted.
"Kay, what page is it on?! Hey...psssttt...Kay?!"
Kay could hear some giggles. She shoved her head deeper into her book. Reo decided to shake Kay a little. Kay gave him a hard stare and gasped, "What?"
Reo said quietly, "What’s the page number?"
Kay said quickly, "It's 74...next time look on the board!"
Reo smiled and said, "Thanks!"
Kay was about to reply something else when the teacher popped up and said, "Is everything all right here?"
Both Kay and Reo muttered yes solemnly and Kay turned away from Reo. Soon he began to draw the same symbols and pictures Kay saw on the bus. She became interested again in his work and couldn't help but ask. "What are you drawing?"
Reo turned away and said over his shoulder coldly, "Why do you care?"
Kay's face got all red and she said angrily but quietly, "You owe me that much!"
'What a jerk...!' Kay thought. She had seen the teacher move out of the corner of her eye. She turned back to her book and growled silently.
"Fine don't answer me..." She said quietly. Soon math was over. As quick as Kay could, she got up and ran out of the room.
"Next...Science..." Kay thought as she looked over her shoulder.
"Good no Reo..."
Kay heard someone call her name. Kay looked over and saw her best friend Nekora Key.
"Hi Nekora..." Kay said walking up to her. She smiled.
"H-Hello K-Kay..."
For as long as Kay had known Nekora, she has always been shy. Kay smiled, Nekora did too. Nekora and Kay both had science together. They were laughing when Reo tapped on Kay's shoulder.
"Sorry about that...honest, you can see them if you like!"
Reo stopped as he saw Nekora. She whispered into Kay's ear, "Who's that?"
Kay replied heartlessly, "A new kid, but personally I think he's a jerk, but that’s if you’re asking me..."
Nekora looked at Reo quickly then back to Kay and whispered, "He doesn’t look like a jerk Kay...are you feeling alright? You look all mad and stuff..."
"Why does he have to have science too..?" Kay said. Kay heard him walk up next to her. Nekora was on the other side. Kay looked up at him and growled.
"So now you have science too...?" She said. He looked at her seriously, and then looked away. Kay rolled her eyes.
"What, now you don’t talk...?" She asked. He stayed quite. She was going to ask him what was going on, but a passing teacher looked up from his book. It was the science teacher. Kay and Nekora got the hint to go to class. They walked in, and the teacher followed.
"Alright class...We're going to work in groups today...and since Reo is a new student...I'll put him with my best worker Kay. Also we have an uneven number of students so Nekora you'll be with Kay too..." The teacher said writing something on the board. Kay sighed and put her head on the desk. She could just hear Reo laughing. Kay sighed in frustration.
"Trust me...." She said through closed teeth; referring to Nekora’s earlier question about Reo.
"Look Reo is there something you need? If not leave please...” Kay said coldly. She watched as Reo walked in front of her. He had a serious look on his face. Kay glared at him, and he did the same right back at Kay.
"W-We should really start working." Nekora said. Kay kept her eyes on Reo.
'Who does this guy think he is...!?' She screamed in her head. She grabbed Nekora by the arm, and headed to her seat.
'He'd better not try anything....!' She thought nearly breaking Nekora's arm. Nekora tried to signal for Reo to stop and Kay put her head up slowly as she thought, 'Well, at least I got Nekora with me...'
Kay, Reo and Nekora got into a semi circle and began to talk, but only about the subject. Reo didn't last to long with his silent treatment and slid the pictures he'd been drawing under Kay's desk. Kay had one nerve to throw them and almost did but stopped when she saw part of one of the pictures. Kay took it under her desk and looked at it carefully and Nekora looked over her shoulder. Kay said something in a weird language without even knowing it. Nekora was about to ask what she said when the teacher snatched up the papers and said, "Passing notes are we? Don't make me separate you guys! Now back to work!"
Reo whispered something to the teacher and he laughed. He gave the pictures back. Kay asked, "What did you say?"
Reo just smiled and said, "An old joke that works every time!"
The three soon went back to work. Kay rolled her eyes.
'Like that’s enough to make me like you...' She thought pulling out her science book. They had to make a model of a volcano. Kay started working on the clay. She had seen Reo staring at her out of the corner of her eye. He walked over and started to help with the model. Nekora did the same. Soon they were all working on it. Kay didn't talk to Reo much. After a few minutes science was over. She looked at the clock, it said 12:34.
"Lunch time..." She thought happily. She walked down the hall with Nekora to lunch. She opened her lunch and saw a peanut butter sandwich with a sunny D drink. She smiled and was ready to eat when none other than Reo sat down at the table. Nekora whispered to Kay, "Is he going to be hanging around us often? Kay...? KAY?!"
Kay was shoving her food into her mouth at great speed and chugging her drink. She said quickly, "Nekora, I got to go to the bathroom..."
Reo was just watching with his mouth half opened and his sandwich halfway in. Nekora was dragged once again. Once they were in the bathroom Kay sighed and slid down the wall and she made a thump sound as she hit the ground. Nekora said quickly, "Don't get to relaxed...her comes the medieval quadruplets...quick get up!"
Kay staggered to her feet as Katie and her cheer squad trapped Nekora and her. Nekora was turning a bit pale as she grew more and more uncomfortable. As for Kay...well Katie and her group sure did pick a bad time to mess with her. She growled as loud as she could.
"Listen here...You and your pathetic group get out of Nekora's and mine's face..!" She said grabbing Katie by her shirt. She was so tempted to hit her, but Kay knew better. Katie scoffed and left. Kay sighed and fell on the ground again.
"And to think....only a couple more years of this...." She said as she looked up a Nekora. She kept her eyes on the door. Kay laughed.
"Alright back to the lunch room I guess..." Kay said getting up. She walked over to the sink, washed her face off, and then looked at herself. Kay almost screamed in horror at her reflection. She had feline like eyes! She looked over at Nekora, who looked at her with wide eyes.
